Since 2014, Tongariro Suites has established itself as the premium, environmental sustainability focussed, child-free, contemporary boutique accommodation in the Tongariro/ Ruapehu region of the North Island. With just 4, exceptionally spacious, well-appointed, European styled suites we offer a unique experience in a unique setting to our discerning guests from around the world. Tongariro Suites is set in 1 hectare of secluded, beautifully landscaped, native gardens with outstanding views of Mount Ruapehu, New Zealand’s largest and highest volcano. Despite our secluded location, Tongariro Suites is just a short, relaxing, 10 min drive from the vibrant mountain town of Ohakune which offers a range of dining and cafe options as well as a well-stocked supermarket and a range of nature and adventure focussed activities suited to all ages and levels of fitness and ability. Tongariro Suites is located in the historic small settlement of Horopito which is the region’s gateway to the internationally renowned Tongariro National Park World Heritage area, the world famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing, the Old Coach Road cycleway and the North Island’s ski fields of Turoa and Whakapapa as well as a variety of walks and hikes ranging from easy to challenging multiday hikes. When staying at Tongariro Suites you can expect an extremely spacious beautifully appointed suite with a private deck overlooking the gardens and across a large pond to the majestic, everchanging views, of Mount Ruapehu. All our suites are furnished with modern European flair and have super comfortable king beds, a generous sitting area, full bathroom with large walk-in shower and bespoke vanity units (3 suites also have an additional deep soak bathtub), a dining table and a servery with a full size fridge, kettle and a microwave oven, locally roasted organic plunger coffee and a selection of quality teas. There is a generous supply of continental breakfast items for you to enjoy at your leisure in the privacy of your room at a time that suits you best albeit for an early start on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing or a lazy start to your day. For your enjoyment there is a library room with cosy log fire and access to our large, sunny, sheltered central deck with hot tub, sun loungers, BBQ and outdoor dining tables. The ideal spot for a bit of relaxing in the evening sun after a day in our greater outdoors or to try your hand at a “Kiwi” BBQ and a bit of socialising.
